Susan Disney (née Albon) was born in Acton in
about 1802. She was the widow of Edward, a shoemaker from Wiston,
and she had worked as governess and schoolmistress (teaching in the
"Dame's School" at the near end of Goslings).
They married in 1822, and had two children. He died in 1858 aged 58.
The pencilled entry mentions a widow called Osborne
(no forename) aged 68. This was probably Thirza Osborne, who appears in the
1851 census as an annuitant, born in "Gidden" in 1798.

Peter and Emma Herbert were another couple with
few connections to Chelsworth. He was from Stratford St Mary, and Emma
was born in Langham in 1823. He was a groom or coachman, and he died in
1899 aged 66.
In the 1870 survey, they appear with a family of
seven, with ages ranging from 20 down to 7. Their two youngest children were
christened here, but earlier children were born in Stratford St Mary and
Polstead.
Annie was born in 1854 and soon after this survey
went into service with Miss Pocklington at The Grange.
In 1886 Arthur Brown married Alice Rush in Thorpe Morieux and he later became
landlord of The Bull there.
Gravestones in the churchyard record, with familiar
loving quotations, the lives of both Emma and Peter Herbert, as well as of Ann
Herbert (1808-1901) - probably Peter’s mother - and Emma Alice Herbert who died
in 1939 aged 80.
