There is not much information about the residents
here, George and Emma Hazell, nor indeed about their immediate
predecessors Samuel and Maryanne Fayers, whose names were entered, then crossed
out, in the survey.
Both farm labourer George (born 1837) and his wife
Emma (1840) came from large Monks Eleigh families. She was Emma Whymark, the
daughter of Frances and William, and sister of Samuel, who married Sarah Barton
in 1861. George’s parents were Robert
and Elizabeth (née Gardner). Shortly after the survey was taken, they moved
down to the Old Farm and had four more
children.
