Sarah Partridge was a widow of 76 in 1870, but she had been
a shopkeeper - a grocer and baker - on these premises; much later, Amos
Grainger recalled buying sweets there.
She was christened Sarah in Chelsworth church in
1793, another daughter of Robert and Sarah Raynham. The survey was in error -
not for the only time - in naming her as Susan. In fact, Susan, born in 1800,
was her younger sister, who later became Susan Scott, the mother of Zachariah
at Meadow Cottage.
Sarah married Robert Partridge, a gardener and
labourer, in 1839 when she was already 45 and he was 40. He was the son of
William Partridge, and he died in 1850, leaving her in his will certain
cottages and other property in Monks Eleigh which he had recently purchased
from a John Harris. Sarah lived to the age of 87.

Isaac (1821-1892) and Elizabeth Gosling were the
parents of John of Weavers and James of Deysfield. Elizabeth was born in Langham in 1822, and the
couple were married in about 1843. Isaac, described elsewhere as a
"higgler", worked as a labourer and general dealer. He was the son of
Elizabeth Street (who died in 1828) and Isaac (1793-1869), a labourer.
Isaac and Elizabeth (the younger) had a family of
five children, of whom the one still living with them (yet another Elizabeth)
was born in 1849. Elizabeth senior died in 1891 aged 68.
