James and Elizabeth Willis lived in the first part of
the cottage. Both came from well-established families in neighbouring villages
- he was an agricultural labourer, born in Lindsey in 1815 the son of
Samuel Willis, and she was Elizabeth Clarke from Monks Eleigh,
Thomas’ daughter, and three years James' elder. They married in 1839.

The tenants of the other half of the cottage were George Goymer and his wife Susan (née Green,
from Semer). He was born in 1824, the brother of William of Waterfall View and James in Deysfield, and son of John Goymer and Ann (née
Griggs). Susan was born in 1833, and she married George - some ten years her
senior - in 1855.
They had eight children - two of whom were to be
born after the date of this survey. Charles became a gardener at Semer Common
and Ellen went to Letheringham to be the vicar’s cook.
Susan died in 1894 in Lindsey, at the age of 61.
